Bowling Tips/ Bowling Ball Selection/Basics

  • When choosing a bowling ball, make sure it is the right weight for you.  Generally, the heavier the ball, the more pins you will knock down, but don't overdo it!  A good rule of thumb is to use a ball equal in weight to about 10% of your body weight, within reason.
  • Make sure the ball feels comfortable in your hand. You shouldn't feel like you have to hang on to the ball for dear life, nor should you feel like it won't come off your hand.
  • You want to aim just to the right or left of the head pin, not directly at the head pin. If you aim directly at the head pin and hit your mark, chances are you will leave a nasty split and have an open frame. In order to hit just the right spot, you should stand on the center dot and aim for the third arrow

  • There are 39 boards on the lane.
  • Each bowling lane is 60 feet long.
  • There are 20 pins in each machine for each lane. So, here at Mountain Run, we have 360 total pins running through our machines for our 18 lanes.
  • The rarest bowling score is a 292.

    Additionally, bowling is a sport that offers people of all ages, sizes and abilities the opportunity to have fun while exercising during most of their entire life! Of course, as with any physical activity, everyone has to be careful and know his/her own limits.
